ONE OF INDIA’S major indus trial centres, Jamshedpur is a rare oasis of cleanliness and efficiency in this region. The planned township, surrounded by lakes, rivers and the pretty Dolma Hills, was established in 1908 by the Parsi tycoon, Sir Jamshedpur Tata . He is regarded as the father of industrial develops- , Dent in India. The Tata Iron and Steel Company (TISCO) was set up by him in this area because of the rich deposits of iron ore and coal found here. The Tata empire continues to flourish, and several of its research, educational and cultural institutes here are open to visitors.
